We went to Dallas this last weekend to explore the photo possibilities. I wrote my friend Cliff Baise for some pointers, and fortunately for me, he offered to show me around personally. I really like Cliff’s work and was very excited to see what cool places he had in store for us. This first shot was our first stop on the tour. It is of a statue series in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas. The statue is titled “The Travelling Man.” Here is an interesting article about the project.

I processed this as a nine exposure raw bracket using HDR Soft’s Photomatix Pro and On One Software’s Photo Tools 2.5. If you haven’t tried Photo Tools, there is a free version of 2.5 now.

This 636-foot high hill is situated on a point east of the sleepy town of Kahakuloa. Part of this hill is called Kahekili’s Leap. The 18th Century Maui King Kahekili used spend some of his time in this area. Legend states that before breakfast, the agile King would climb over 200-feet up the hill and “leap” into the water below.

This shot was taken with a Canon S95 while we were looking for the right spot for our sunset shot I posted previously. I have been really happy with this little camera and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a high quality point and shoot. The beaches all over Maui were beautiful. The sunsets added a surreal mood to their beauty. This shot was taken from a public beach and if you look closely, you can see fishermen on the rocks. They would have had to swim to get there.

Travelling the road from Wailea to Hana in Maui we saw this beautiful beach and had to stop. The tree made a perfect subject to frame this tranquil setting.

The sun had a hard time poking through the stormy clouds as we went looking for shots in the late evening in Austin. We decided to go to the top of the Austin Community College parking garage and found this scene.

There are many places on Town Lake in Austin to view the sunset. Oyster Bay is a restaurant that is built right on the water. People come to enjoy the sights and sounds of the water and the wildlife. Boating and fishing are popular in this area. As I was taking this photo, a small child was throwing bits of bread into the water to attract the ducks.

The Bay Bridge is one of the two main bridges into San Francisco. The shoreline along this area is full of shops and grassy areas where visitors can relax. The weather in San Francisco was mostly cooperative during our visit. On this day, it was very clear and sunny. What a beautiful day.

We had gone up to Twin Peaks to get a shot of downtown San Francisco, but the fog was too thick for a clear view. We decided to wind our way down the roads towards downtown to see if we could get a clear shot. Luckily about that time, the fog decided to split into trails and let some light in. We jumped out of the car on the side of the road and grabbed a couple quick shots.
